RiverHawks Sweep Weekly LSC Honors
RICHARDSON, Texas --- Three Northeastern State football student-athletes were recognized by the Lone Star Conference today for their performances in the RiverHawks' 31-23 win at Tarleton State on Sept. 2.
Trey McVay, a wide receiver from Ft. Gibson, Okla./Fort Gibson
HS, claimed the Offensive Player of the Week Award in the North
Division. McVay had three catches for 89 yards and one TD. His
43-yard reception inside the Texans’ 5-yard line to open the
fourth quarter set up a Kenny Davis one-yard plunge to put the
RiverHawks up 24-7 with 13:39 to go.
The LSC North Defensive honored went to Donald Dangerfield from
Hugo, OK/Hugo HS. Dangerfield had nine tackles, two for losses of
14 yards, a QB sack and one interception. The junior rover picked
off a Nick Stephens pass to thwart a potential TSU scoring drive in
the first half.
And, the North Special Teams winner was Nate Robinson, a junior
defensive back from Rockingham, NC. Robinson’s 95-yard
kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth
quarter essentially put the game away for Northeastern State.
The Texans had reeled off nine straight points to pull to within
24-16 with 7:02 left. However, Robinson’s return reversed the
momentum swing and his TD gave the RiverHawks a 31-16 margin just
16-seconds later.
