Tigers Punish RiverHawks, LSC North Tied
ADA, Okla. --- Northeastern State will have to wait another week for a chance to claim the Lone Star Conference title.
East Central scored 24 points in the each half, had two defensive touchdowns and recorded two safeties en route to a 48-21 victory over the RiverHawks on Saturday at Norris Field. The win for the Tigers forged a tie with Northeastern State as each team now has identical 4-1 records in league play.
The loss for the RiverHawks snapped a three-game winning streak and the squad fell to 5-4 overall. ECU improved to 4-5 overall.
Northeastern State made a bit of a comeback attempt in the third quarter with a pair of TDs on a Sean Donohue reception and Steven Hopper picked up a blocked punt for a 3-yard score. And, trailing 33-21 late in the frame, the RiverHawks had first and 10 from the ECU 12, but the drive stalled and Drew Patton missed a short field goal into the wind.
Two plays later, Tyler Vanderzee went upstairs to put the game on ice with a 75-yard rainbow to Cleota Euwins. The Tigers added a safety and Charles Opeseytian scored on a short run for the final verdict.
Northeastern State will host Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in Senior Day at Wadley Stadium.
