October Update from RiverHawks Baseball
October Baseball Update
We are well into our fall practice and workouts are going very well. The coaching staff couldn’t be happier with the players’ attitudes, effort and daily energy. We (the coaches) feel like that we are getting comfortable with what our different players bring to the table. We will continue to be in our team practice for the rest of October, and possibly into the first week of November.
The next few days will be an exciting time for our program. This Saturday, the 8th, we will have a “Family Day.” All of our parents will be invited to a scrimmage game and then we will have a meal for everybody….it should be a crowd of 100-120 or so. This is a good opportunity for players and all of our parents to get acquainted. It’s something that I’m really looking forward to.
Next week we will host two different in-state Junior Colleges for scrimmages. On Tuesday we will host Carl Albert State College at 3 pm. On Wednesday we will play Connors State College at 2 pm. We are excited to get the opportunity to play somebody in a different color uniform.
Along with practice, our guys continue to work hard with our conditioning program. Coach Hess and Coach Nisco do a great job with our weight program. We have a very specific baseball weight program that has helped our guys get stronger and become better “baseball athletes.” The pitchers are on one routine, and the position players go through a different workout.
Coach Hess and Coach Nisco do get some help, though. Perhaps our most popular day in our conditioning program is the time that we spend with Yoga instructor Libby Rogers. Libby helps us once a week for an hour and puts our guys through a yoga routine. We wanted to give our guys a chance to improve their flexibility; and we wanted to give our guys something that is a little bit different. I think I speak for everybody in the program…the coaches and the players love it! Thanks Libby for all of your help!
One of the special things about NSU that our coaching staff continues to experience is the attitude of the people. It seems like that every corner you turn there are people… like Libby, willing to help out if needed. For a new coaching staff, this has helped make the transition a smooth one.
We will be practicing for the rest of the month. Come on out and see us and enjoy this fall weather! If NSU Baseball can help you with anything, please let us know!
Coach Janssen
