Happy Holidays from NSU Baseball

Happy Holidays from NSU Baseball!

Along with baseball season, this is one of the best times of the year.  It’s a great time to be thankful for all that is going good.  As a coaching staff we are very thankful of all those that have helped NSU baseball have a positive and successful fall.  October and early November was a busy time – here’s a recap…

As the month of October wrapped up, so did fall practice.  We feel like we had a competitive fall and were happy with many of the player’s efforts.  We were very happy with the player’s willingness to accept coaching, and the energy level that they brought to the field every day.  We are optimistic that positive days are ahead of us in the spring!

Right now the focus has turned to the weight room.  We are lifting three or four times a week, and, also still doing yoga once a week.  This is a time of the year that the players are concentrating on getting stronger and faster.  The players are still working out baseball wise, but more in an individual fashion.  Cuts are being taken in the cage and bullpens are being thrown.  We hope guys are concentrating on their weaknesses so we can be a stronger team in the spring.

Last week our guys got to experience something that is a little bit out of the ordinary.  NSU Baseball teamed up with Rob Wallace and his staff out at Camp Heart O’ Hills.  The team experienced two days of obstacle course type challenges.  The highlight of the two days was the ropes course (that was way up there…) that our guys got to go up on.

At the very least, the guys got to do something that they don’t normally get to do, and we hope they had a lot of fun.  If heights are an issue at all (I’m in that group) for any of the guys, they got to face some of their fears also…which is always a good thing.  Maybe being put in uncomfortable situations - even if they are not sports related – will help us in the spring.  The whole experience was a lot of fun.  Rob and his crew treated us great!  Thanks Rob, Bryan, Marcus and Whitney!!

The early signing period came and went during early November.  NSU Baseball is very proud that we were able to sign Dakota Daniels.  Dakota is a catcher from Prairie Grove, AR.  You will read more about him soon on our website.  We are fired up that he decided to join the program.

When the team gets back from thanksgiving break they will have roughly two weeks of school left, plus finals week.  I have met with every player about his grades and baseball performance during the fall.  Heading into finals, we are in pretty good shape grade wise I believe.  It will always be our players’ first responsibility to take care of his work in the classroom.

The month of December is practically here.  I have some speaking engagements this month.  I will speak to the Rotary Club on December 6th.  Also I will be speaking to two different groups of high school coaches within the state.  I’m very happy with the players’ actions and attitudes and look forward to bragging on them!

The coaching staff at NSU does wish you a Happy Holiday Season, and we hope that this time of year is a great time for you!  As always, if we can help you with anything at NSU Baseball, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Happy Holidays!!!
