Abilene Christian Sweeps RiverHawks in LSC Play

TAHEQUAH, Okla. --- Ninth-ranked Abilene Christian swept Northeastern State 12-2 and 9-4 in Lone Star Conference baseball play Sunday afternoon at Rousey Field.

The league leading Wildcats are now 32-8 overall and 21-7 in LSC action. The RiverHawks fall to 15-24 and 13-19 in league play.

In game one the Wildcats pounded out 15 hits against four NSU pitchers as Abilene Christian took an10-0 lead before the RiverHawks got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with two runs.

Chris Gallegos’ 2-run homer over the left field wall that scored Noah Ringenberger, who singled to open the inning, cut the Wildcats’ lead to 10-2 after four innings.

Abilene Christian added two more runs in the sixth for the 12-2 final as the RiverHawks’ Keith Head (0-4), who started for NSU on the mound took the loss. He went just three innings giving up 10 runs, all earned.

Abilene Christian led 5-3 after three innings of the second game as the RiverHawks scored a single in the opening three innings of play.

David Zavala’s sacrifice fly to centerfield in the first inning scored Ringenberger, and in the second Tyler Brewer scored when Ringenberger was hit by a pitch by Abilene’s Will Calhoun with the bases loaded.

In the third inning the RiverHawks scored Demetrius Terronez homered over the left center field wall.

Abilene added a run in the fourth for a 6-3 advantage. NSU then scored in the last of the fifth when Gallegos homered to left center.

The Wildcats put the game away with a three runs in the final three innings of play.
