Jones Doubles Up For All-Stars
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Jason Jones made his presence felt on Friday night as the Northeastern State senior recorded a double-double in the NCAA/NABC Division II All-Star game.
Jones logged 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as his West All-Star team edged the East All-Stars, 131-125, in overtime.
The first-ever Northeastern State player chosen to the squad, which runs in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Elite 8. hit 3-of-4 treys, was 4-of-9 overall and had one steal in 24 minutes of action. All of his rebounds came on the defensive end.
Jones' first bucket of the game came with 6:32 to play in the first half which pulled the West to within six, 45-39. He also added a layup with 4:20 to go as he finished the half with five points.
The West trailed 58-53 at halftime, but Jones hit a trey with 19:23 to go and another at the 18:28 mark taht tied the game at 62-all.
Mike Dominguez hit a 3-point bucket with :04 left in regulation to force overtime with the teams deadlocked at 115-115.
Central Missouri's Sanijay Watts scored five points in the extra session as the West closed out the game on a 9-2 run to claim the victory. Watts and Kyle Moore of Tusculum shared Most Outstanding Player honors for the West squad with 21 points apiece. LeMoyne's Laurence Ekperigin was the East's MOP with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
