Avery, right-handed pitcher, enters his second season as a RiverHawk but it will be his first season to play after missing all of the 2009 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He transferred from Carl Albert State College where he played two seasons for the Vikings and earned All-Conference honorable mention.

He was four-year letter winner at Bristow High School for Coach Buck Vest. Avery was an All-Conference selection each year while breaking school records for doubles, most wins in a season, most strike outs and highest batting average.

His uncle Mike Shelton pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Avery is a Criminal Justice major and pursuing a minor in Health and Human Performance.
