ST. CHARLES, Mo. Zach Tucker's highest-career finish helped the Northeastern State men's golf team place third at the Lindenwood Invitational Tuesday afternoon on the par-72 Whitmoor Country Club.

The junior member of the team shot an even-par round of 72 in the final round to jump up nine spots and claim a share of third place with a four-over 148.

“Zach competed like a champion today. I am so proud of his performance,” NSU head coach Scott Varner said. “This is the golfer I recruited to play for us three years ago.”

The RiverHawks shot a team total of 309 Tuesday to place third overall at 614. Lindenwood shot 296 in the final round to move from sixth to first (606), and Central Missouri placed second (292-318=610). Central Oklahoma (303-312=615) and Washburn (306-312=618) also found spots in the top five.

“We are just trying to get better every day and every tournament. We are taking a simple approach, forgetting about all our history and tradition and just getting back to the basics,” Varner said. “The scores from this tournament might not look great, but it was a very difficult course and we beat some teams we needed to beat.”

Senior Kyle Fouts shot a 76 in the final round to finish at 150 and tie for eighth. Senior Jacob Bartel shot an 81 and placed 21st (76-81=157), freshman Jackson Hess also shot an 81 and tied for 36th (79-81=160), and sophomore Jonas Granel carded a final-round 80 (87-80=167) to tie for 60th.

The RiverHawks will next be in action Oct. 8-9 at the Guy Harvey Invitational. The tournament will be contested on The Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
