RiverHawks Turn Out For Big Event
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State student-athletes not in action on Saturday gave back to the community as part of the Big Event 2010.
Seven of the 10 RiverHawk Athletic programs participated in the annual event. Sponsored by Northeastern State University and organized by the Herb Rozell Scholars, the Big Event puts hundreds of students in touch with the Tahlequah community. Chores range from cleaning up parks and recreational areas, to assisting elderly residents with home projects.
Athletics jobs included: Women's soccer team spent the morning at the Humane Society of Cherokee County, exercising the animals and cleaning up kennels; Men's soccer moved top soil onto the Tahlequah Youth Soccer League fields and removed excess water; Football cleaned up the highway along the Bertha Parker Bypass; Men's & Women's Golf cleaned fence rows and painted a picket fence at a residence; Men's Basketball did yard work at St. Basil's Episcopal Church; and Women's Golf painted the interior of a youth center at Crescent Valley Church.
